Breckenridge is a popular Colorado ski resort during the winter months, while in summer the area attracts outdoor enthusiasts with hiking trails, wildflowers, fly-fishing in the Blue River, mountain biking, nearby Lake Dillon for boating, and white water rafting.

Since the opening of the course, national and regional honors have been bestowed on Breckenridge. Honors awarded include "Best Mountain Course" and "Toughest Mountain Course."

Named after the Eagle River which runs through the county, much of Eagle county is taken up by White River National Forest, and much of the rest is managed by the Bureau of Land Management. Interstate 70 crosses the county from east to west.

Montrose serves as the gateway to the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park to the east of town, and winter transportation hub to ski areas of the San Juan Mountains to the south.
